Most of Microsoft’s Surface devices now only get driver and firmware updates for 4 years, with a few exceptions. The Surface Laptop 3 that followed in 2019 brought a new 15” screen option for the first time, as well as the choice between Intel and AMD CPUs. The main additions included faster 8th gen Intel Core CPUs (which is the base requirement for upgrading to Windows 11), as well as a new matte black color. The Surface Laptop 2 was an iterative update released a year after the original Surface Laptop. Actually, Microsoft has yet to announce an official end-of-support date for Windows 11. The Surface Laptop 2 is also eligible for a free Windows 11 upgrade, and that version of Windows will be supported beyond 2025. The laptop shipped with Windows 10 and this version of Windows will be supported until October 2025. The end of device support doesn’t mean that the Surface Laptop Laptop 2 won’t receive new software updates anymore. Indeed, today, December 27, 2022, marks the end of device support for the laptop released by Microsoft back in October 2018 (via Neowin). Select your language and keyboard settings.Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 2 will no longer receive new firmware or driver updates.A blue screen with language selection options will appear. When the Surface logo appears, let go of the buttons.

Hold the volume-down and power button at the same time.

Insert the USB recovery drive we just created into the USB port on the Surface Laptop or Surface Laptop 2.

Make sure you backed up all your data first, as this process will remove all your apps, documents and settings. Now that you've created the USB recovery drive and loaded all the necessary files onto it, you can finally get to recovering the Surface Laptop. If so, select Replace files in destination. You may be prompted to replace already existing files in the destination.

You can press CTRL + A to select all of the files in the folder and drag-and-drop them into the drive labeled 'RECOVERY' in the left sidebar.

Copy all the files in the extracted folder into your newly created USB recovery drive.

It will have a name along the lines of 'SurfaceLaptop_BMR_151_12.761.0' (the specific name may vary depending on the recovery version you download).
